Shingles | Herpes

Shingles and Herpes

Shingles is a reactivation of the herpes zoster virus (varicella-zoster virus). This same virus that causes chickenpox. The chickenpox virus (varicella) remains in a dormant state in the body in the root of nerves that control sensation.

When a person gets Shingles, it means that this virus is activated in the body and this virus then travels along a sensory nerve into the skin causing a painful rash known as shingles.

The pain is very accute and generally is also very sensitive to air, clothes etc. There are medicines available that will take care of this virus. An immediate doctors attention is very important for the persons sufferring from this.

Patients must take care of extra pre-cautions during this time and rest is very much recommended even after the pain is reduced to avoid PHN.
